The second Empowering Regions
The second Empowering Regions through High-Tech 2018 Forum was successfully held in Gyumri, the 2nd largest city of Gyumri, Armenia from 7-8 December. It gathered around 200 young people and specialists from all the regions of RA engaged in high-tech, startup and innovation fields. During the 2 days they shared experiences, presented their startups and companies, established new connections, learned about new developments in the global IT and high-tech sectors from the invited guest speakers. Besides, a number of panel discussions were held on:
- Local entrepreneurship ecosystem level-up
- International business challenges in the regions
- Technology’s impact on non-tech industries
The forum was attended by a number of high-ranking officials, including Acting Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Tigran Avinyan, Head of EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Piotr Switalski, German Ambassador to Armenia Matthias Kiesler, and acting Armenian Minister of Transport, Communication and Information Technologies Hakob Arshakyan. All of them emphasised the significance of the forum on the equal development of regions of Armenia and increasing the regional competitiveness. "The Government plans to maximise its efforts in supporting the existing high-tech centers in regions and encourage the creation of the new ones, as the regional development is a strategic priority for Armenia'' said Tigran Avinyan, Acting Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia .
In his speech, the Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Piotr Świtalski said that EU believes that knowledge- and innovation-based economy for the regions are driver for economic growth and development. "In this regard concerted efforts needed by all stakeholders to drive the innovation agenda forward across Armenia", stated the Ambassador.
The forum has been supported by EU-SMEDA project for the second year already and organised in partnership with Enterprise Incubator Foundation and Gyumri Technology Centre.

The 3rd Regional WE Club took place in Sisian, Syunik Region on September 27 organised by the consortium of Goris Women Resource Center and Mirhav hotel. The latter are the successors of the WE Club platform in Syunik Region. The topic of the event was “Art of Sales”.
"Think Bigger, Think Future "- the Women Entrepreneurs' Workshop was held on August 28th organised by SMEDA project, aiming at summing up the series of activities on enhancing women entrepreneurship implemented by the project through it WE Clubs, WE Talks and working groups. It gathered leading women entrepreneurs, BMO representatives, advisers and trainers in Armenia to exchange and share their experiences on successful models for women entrepreneurship, discuss the current challenges and suggest strategic approaches for further development and promotion of women empowerment topic. The event hosted special guests form Germany and Georgia: Tinatin Rukhadze, Jean Elsner and Amelia Omerika, who eagerly shared and presented their success stories with useful tips during the "Mentorship and Coaching for Women Entrepreneurs" event following the workshop.
The message delivered by Tinatin Rukhadze, founder of a consulting company in Georgia, trainer and coach was that if a woman wants to be successful she should be strong and believe in herself, and only after that the rest of the world will believe in what she does. Do not be afraid to try and challenge, be strong and patient on your way to success, this was one of the inspiring messages to the Armenian women entrepreneurs.
