Press Conference ahead of "Empowering Regions through High-tech" forum
On December 5th, a press conference was held ahead of "Empowering Regions through High-tech" forum on Dec. 7-8, 2018 in Gyumri. The forum is supported by European Union in Armenia through its EU-SMEDA project and organised by Enterprise Incubator Foundation (EIF) Gyumri Technology Center - GTC. The aim of the forum is to empower the youth of Armenia's regions by supporting regional startup ecosystem, encouraging innovation and IT development in regions through creation of cooperation & partnership with global companies and IT networks, universities and non-tech SMEs. It is expected that over 200 participants from all the regions of Armenia will attend the event.
Mr. Gonzalo Serrano, Head of Cooperation Section of EU Delegation in Armenia attended the press conference and shared about EU’s ongoing support directed to the development of Innovation and high-tech sectors in Armenia. He informed about the upcoming additional funding of 60 mln. EUR within the EU4Innovation initiative, as well as for promoting STEM subjects in schools, enhancement of Regional Development and green agriculture. He said: “EU supports the Government of Armenia in its objective to become a regional hub of technology and innovation”.
Mrs. Mariam Babayan, Team Leader of EU-SMEDA project said:"We support the forum for the second time as we belive that the youth in regions could make big contribution in the future development of the country ".

One of the most significant events in the startup ecosystem of Armenia: the traditionally held Sevan Startup Summit took place from July 28 – August 3, 2019 on the shores of the Lake Sevan. It had been supported by EU-SMEDA project for the third year in a row, given the vast impact and value it conveys to startup life of Armenia, revealing dozens of new and talented startups and creating opportunities for them for further growth, investment and expansion.
The "Fashion Forum Yerevan 2019"- already held as a traditional event, officially kicked off on June 25, in “Vordan Karmir” museum with fashion exhibition by Armenian designers titled: "Heritage". The collections of traditional garments, accessories, samples of Taraz (national costume) created by Armenian designers were presented at the exhibition to the visiting public and fashion lovers.
Supported by EU-SMEDA project, the Business Angels Network of Armenia (BANA) organised its second Business Investment Conference on June 11, 2019: “Two years winged: What’s next” gathering local and international business angels to share angel investment insights and to hear from one of the experienced international business angels and investors Maurice Verwee on topics like Angel investment in Armenia, due diligence and company valuation, investment management and more. It aimed also at presenting the achievements of BANA to the business angels and guests and plan for future activities based on recommendations and feedback received.
