The second "Empowering Regions through High-tech'' forum successfully held

The second Empowering Regions through High-Tech 2018 Forum was successfully held in Gyumri, the 2nd largest city of Armenia from 7-8 December. It gathered around 200 young people and specialists from all the regions of RA engaged in high-tech, startup and innovation fields. During the 2 days they shared experiences, presented their startups and companies, established new connections, learned about new developments in the global IT and high-tech sectors from the invited guest speakers. Besides, a number of panel discussions were held on:

  • Local entrepreneurship ecosystem level-up
  • International business challenges in the regions
  • Technology’s impact on non-tech industries

The forum  was attended by a number of high-ranking officials, including Acting Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Tigran Avinyan, Head of EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Piotr Switalski, German Ambassador to Armenia Matthias Kiesler, and acting Armenian Minister of Transport, Communication and Information Technologies Hakob Arshakyan. All of them emphasised the significance of the forum on the equal development of regions of Armenia and increasing the regional competitiveness.

"The Government plans to maximise its efforts in supporting the existing high-tech centers in regions and encourage the creation of the new ones, as the regional development is a strategic priority for Armenia'' said Tigran Avinyan, Acting Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia .

In his speech, the Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Piotr Świtalski  said that EU believes that knowledge- and innovation-based economy for the regions are driver for economic growth and development. "In this regard concerted efforts needed by all stakeholders to drive the innovation agenda forward across Armenia", stated the Ambassador. 

The forum has been supported by EU-SMEDA project for the second year already and organised in partnership with Enterprise Incubator Foundation and Gyumri Technology Centre.

Sevan Startup Summit 2019

One of the most significant events in the startup ecosystem of Armenia: the traditionally held Sevan Startup Summit took place from July 28 – August 3, 2019 on the shores of the Lake Sevan. "Fashion Forum Yerevan 2019" held as a traditional event to boost Armenia's fashion industry

The "Fashion Forum Yerevan 2019"- already held as a traditional event, officially kicked off on June 25, in “Vordan Karmir” museum with fashion exhibition by Armenian designers titled: "Heritage". The collections of traditional garments, accessories, samples of Taraz (national costume) created by Armenian designers were presented at the exhibition to the visiting public and fashion lovers.

Business Angels Investment Conference

Supported by EU-SMEDA project, the Business Angels Network of Armenia (BANA) organised its second Business Investment Conference on June 11, 2019: “Two years winged: What’s next” gathering local and international business angels to share angel investment insights and to hear from one of the experienced international business angels and investors Maurice Verwee on topics like Angel investment in Armenia, due diligence and company valuation, investment management and more. It aimed also at presenting the achievements of BANA to the business angels and guests and plan for future activities based on recommendations and feedback received.
