Supported by EU-SMEDA project, the Business Angels Network of Armenia (BANA) organised its second Business Investment Conference on June 11, 2019: “Two years winged: What’s next” gathering local and international business angels to share angel investment insights and to hear from one of the experienced international business angels and investors Maurice Verwee on topics like Angel investment in Armenia, due diligence and company valuation, investment management and more. It aimed also at presenting the achievements of BANA to the business angels and guests and plan for future activities based on recommendations and feedback received.
The Business Angel Network of Armenia (BANA) is a platform for investors supported by European Union through EU-SMEDA project since its establishment in 2017.
Since then, international expertise was mobilised to develop the strategy of BANA and help to attract initial members. This support is ongoing that made BANA a strong investment network having a big impact on the country’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. As to date, members of BANA have invested over 360,000 EUR in startups and another 200,000 EUR is being negotiated for various startup companies and business ventures, which is a quite significant result within the 2 years of operation.
Mr. Gonzalo Serrano, Head of the Cooperation Section of the EU Delegation to Armenia said at his welcoming speech that BANA plays an important role for the business and investment environment of Armenia and EU will continue supporting BANA through the EU-SMEDA project.
Ms. Eva Naeher, Team Leader of EU-SMEDA project said that the support of business angels to startups has high significance not only financially but more for knowledge sharing and guidance to them. She thinks that the international business angels and consultants involved in BANA perform valuable work in that regard sharing knowledge and experience with Armenian startups.
Among many other recommendations and raised issues the importance of communication, branding and storytelling was highlighted by experienced investors as success factors for startups and entrepreneurs in Armenia that want to attract investment.
The European Union through its “Support to SME Development in Armenia” (EU-SMEDA) project supports the Science and Technology Convergence Conference (STCC) 2019, which is taking place on October 11-12. STCC is an annual conference co-organised by the IIAP of NAS RA andCatalyst Foundation(aSmartGateVC initiative). It is set to foresee the future of fundamental and applied research in Armenia. The conference brings together the community of researchers and engineers of different disciplines from both industry and academia that work on advanced technologies.
The 3rd Regional WE Club took place in Sisian, Syunik Region on September 27th organised by the consortium of Goris Women Resource Center and Mirhav hotel. The latter are the successors of the WE Club platform in Syunik Region. The topic of the event was “Art of Sales”.
"Think Bigger, Think Future "- the Women Entrepreneurs' Workshop was held on August 28th organised by EU-SMEDA project, aiming at summing up the series of activities on enhancing women entrepreneurship implemented by the project through its WE Clubs, WE Talks and working groups.
