Press Conference to Announce Business Innovation Forum

The 5th Annual Business Innovation Forum will be held under the slogan "Step Forward into The New Reality”. BIF will take place on November 10-11 in Dilijan.

Karen Vardanyan organiser of Business Innovation Forum, the Executive Director of Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE) and Eva Naeher the Team Leader of the “Support to SME Development in Armenia" (SMEDA) Project announced about this today at press conference.

"The technology is being developed so fast that it needs to be constantly adjusted to life and business. The innovative approaches are successfully applied in the IT sector, and positive trends are definitely noticeable. However, the level of application of innovations in Armenia is low, that is why we create a platform for its development and effective use. We have a positive shift in the fields of IT and engineering, but the level of the demand of innovative solutions by other businesses is not that high. The innovation also assumes the need for investment which is essentially linked to the competition and business thinking. If the businessman's thinking is focused only on the market of Yerevan, and there is no a certain task to be represented to the global market, then the innovation approaches are not in the line with his interests", said Karen Vardanyan, Executive Director, UITE.

Eva Naeher, the Team Leader of the “Support to SME Development in Armenia" (SMEDA) said: “SMEDA is pleased to support the Business Innovation Forum as we see innovation as an important aspect for SME development, with the Forum offering a good possibility for discussion of innovation, digitalisation and IT topics with different stakeholders from public and private, research and science sectors. We will also be presenting the first glimpse of our innovation mapping started recently by international and national experts, which will, along with the findings of the forum serve as a basis for the Innovation Strategy for Armenia. Besides, there will be a number of interesting workshops with SMEDA experts covering business models, design thinking to name a few, that will offer different ideas and approaches to help to “Step to the New Reality”, helping Armenian SMEs to pave the pathway for an innovative future”.

The Business Innovation Forum is an effective platform for business discussions and idea generation for educational, technological and business sphere professionals who will present innovative development experiences through thematic debates, business presentations and networking as well as structure and formulate a future action plan.

The two-day Business Innovation Forum main sections are:

  • Digitzation as a Chance for Armenia's Economy
  • R&D Infrastructure and Culture in the Armenian High-Tech
  • Pathways to Innovative Growth - Innovation Strategy for Armenia
  • Intellectual Property and Information Security Problems and Solutions
  • Future of Education for ICT & High-Tech in Armenia

International experts from Germany, Belgium and Romania will share their expertise at a number of interesting workshops on innovation, business and IT topics. Armenia will be represented by the Centre for Strategic Initiatives, Ucom, D-Link, Masys Tech, FimeTech, Anania Shirakatsi Lyceum, Microsoft Innovation Centre, Enterprise Incubator Foundation, Gyumri Information Technologies Centre and representatives of other companies and experts. The list of speakers at the Business Innovation Forum is represented at www.bif.am.

Setting the ground for innovative tourism in Armenia’s regions

The hackathon aimed at generating innovative ideas for tourism was launched on April 7, 2018 in Vanadzor Technology Center (VTC) – located at Armenia’s Lori Region. Around 50 young and enthusiastic teams gathered at VTC to compete around innovative and ingenious ideas that could be turned into models and embedded into regional tourism development.  The idea is supported by the European Union and Armenian Government and thus, EU-SMEDA project partnered with VTC and Enterprise Incubator Foundation to make this happen.
