Armenian Delegation successfully showcases at Hannover Messe 2018
Supported by EU-SMEDA, four Armenian Precision Engineering and IIoT companies, namely RAFA Solutions (rafasolutions.com), Bitlis-MEN (www.bitlismen.com), Volterman Inc. (www.volterman.com) and Grovf (www.grovf.com); representatives of the three Free Economic Zones in Armenia namely Alliance FEZ (www.fez.am), Meridian FEZ (www.meridianfez.com) and Meghri FEZ (www.meghrifez.am); Gyumri Technology Center (www.gtc.am) and Vanadzor Technology Center (www.vtc.am), as well as the Union of Precision Engineering Enterprises (www.upee.am) and the Ministry of Economic Development and Investments of Armenia had the opportunity to be part of this year's Hannover Messe 2018, the world’s biggest trade fair for engineering.
Prior to the trade fair, several sessions for capacity development and preparation had been conducted. Furthermore, a roadshow to a number of outstanding German entities specialized in engineering, such as the Association of German Engineers VDMA – with over 3,200 -member companies in the SME-dominated mechanical and systems engineering industry in Germany and Europe, Berlin Adlershof – one of the leading Science and Technology parks in Europe, and the famous Autostadt Volkswagen in Wolfsburg was organised.
At HANNOVER MESSE 2018, at stand D41 in Hall 27, Armenia’s Tech and IT gems in Precision Engineering (PE) and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), together with representatives of the Union of Precision Engineering Enterprises, and key executives of Armenia’s major Techno Parks and Free Economic Zones and Investments presented the business opportunities in Armenia under the slogan “Armenia – Explore New Opportunities!”
On April 26, 2018 a forum on “Business Opportunities in Armenia” was held, followed by a networking event at the joint stand in Hall 27 which was attended by H.E. Ashot Smbatyan, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia in Germany. During the forum a panel discussion was held with PE companies, Technoparks and FEZ executives who presented the investment and business opportunities, development trends and capacities of their entities to the interested international investors and business partners. The various exhibiting entities were able to raise a high interest among potential business partners, investors and the interested audience whom they met and discussed cooperation perspectives for the future.
“Armenia provides some real new opportunities at the bridge between the Eurasian Economic Union, Iran, and the European Union. It offers not only highly skilled labour, but showcases also some surprising and highly innovative ideas, that can drive Industrie 4.0, Precision Engineering and future development in general”, concluded Eva Naeher, Team Leader of the EU-SMEDA project about the forum and Armenia’s first participation at Hannover Messe.

On March 15, the ''Support to SME Development in Armenia (EU-SMEDA)'' project was honoured to host the EU Ambassador Piotr Świtalski at a site visit to a number of EU-supported initiatives aiming to boost the startup ecosystem in Armenia. The visit started with a press conference with journalists at the EU-SMEDA supported Hero House, who then followed the Ambassador in his tour to the startups.
The fourth Startup Boost Weekend has taken place uniting around 130 students from universities and this time also from the UWC Dilijan school. After 54 hours of learning, practicing, sharing and presentation sessions between Feb. 22-24, 2019, with experienced mentors and successful entrepreneurs, 3 winning teams composed of university students were announced by the jury.
The Demo Day of the third batch of graduating startups of the EU-funded Armenia Startup Academy was successfully held on January 19, 2019. During the Demo Day, the founders of 12 startups that had been enrolled in the third cycle of the 12-week pre-acceleration programme of the Armenia Startup Academy introduced themselves and their products and solutions to the interested public, shared what they had learned at the Academy and what their future plans were.
